Former NBA stars Vince Carter and Chauncey Billups were among 13 people inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame during the ceremony. Carter was famous for his high-flying dunks during a career that spanned 22 NBA seasons while Billups won an NBA championship with Detroit in 2004, earning the title of NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. Basketball legend Jerry West, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a player and member of the 1960 U.S. Olympic team, has been inducted again as a contributor to his work. his work as an executive, becoming the first member of the Hall to be inducted as a player and contributor. He passed away in June at the age of 86. Others honored include prominent former NBA players Michael Cooper, Walter Davis and Dick Barnett, Australian star Michelle Timms, US college coaches Bo Ryan and Harley Redin, middle coach American scholar Charles Smith, WNBA star Seimone Augustus and contributors Doug Collins and Herb Simon.

Augustus was a four-time champion and eight-time all-star in 15 WNBA seasons, 14 with the Minnesota Lynx.Timms was known as one of the best defenders in the world while playing for the Australian Opals, helping the team win an Olympic bronze medal in 1996 and a silver medal in 2000.
