Red Sox shortstop Kenley Jansen is not one to keep his opinions to himself, especially when it comes to Boston’s chances of competing for a playoff spot. The veteran was clearly furious last summer when Chaim Bloom and the Red Sox remained on the same page at the trade deadline — with Boston ultimately falling through in August and September on the road to another losing season.

Back this season, the 2024 Red Sox find themselves in a familiar dilemma with Craig Breslow and Boston management still undecided on which path to take before the 30th trade deadline July. Admittedly, the Red Sox are likely to be buyers this summer with Boston currently 10 games above .500 and 1.5 games ahead of the Royals for the third and third Wild-Card spot. last in the American League. But although it seems like Boston should try to add players to this list, Jansen emphasized that he does not need to interfere in the discussions currently being conducted by Breslow and the rest of Boston’s management team.
Jansen told WEEI’s Rob Bradford in the latest episode of “Baseball Isn’t Boring.” I think they are smart enough to know what we really need. It’s clear what we need. Obviously we need a right-handed bat. Obviously we need a player or two to start. And we will compete with anyone.”
