So far, the newest addition to the New York Yankees’ starting lineup has received plenty of praise from teammates and coaches. With pitchers and catchers for the New York Yankees , some of the team’s new faces have begun to make an impression. This off-season, arguably the biggest move for the Yankees was the signing of all-around left-hander Max Fried . The addition of Fried is the first step in the right direction after losing Juan Soto. While New York’s starting lineup is solid in 2024, the addition of Fried would take the team to the next level.

Furthermore, the left-hander will join a rotation that features 2023 Cy Young Award winner Gerrit Cole and current Rookie of the Year Luis Gil. This roster is brimming with talent and could have one of the best rotations in the league from top to bottom. Recently, his new teammate and running mate in the leadoff spot had high praise for one of the new players joining the Yankees. Since starting with the Atlanta Braves in 2017, the 31-year-old has become one of the best pitchers in baseball along the way. He has a career record of 73-36 with an ERA of 3.07 and has had multiple seasons with an ERA under 3.00. Despite having one of the best curveballs in the game, Fried was not yet known as a strikeout pitcher. This appears to be something New York will work on with him to potentially help him improve in that area. Much of the All-Star’s success is creating ground balls and soft contact. On the days he pitches, the Yankees will have to stay alert in the infield. However, Fried did a great job of helping out by taking his position to golden glove level.
With postseason success being New York’s ultimate goal, this will be an area where they hope Fried can do better. So far in his postseason career, he has a 2-5 record with a 5.10 ERA in 67 innings. Even though his overall statistics weren’t great in the postseason, he still helped the Braves win the World Series in 2021 and played well in the playoffs that year.
