Jalyx Hunt of the Philadelphia Eagles turned the Super Bowl loss to LIX into a positive. The NFL’s fine of Eagles defensive tackle Jalyx Hunt during Super Bowl LIX prompted Rob McElhenney to donate thousands of dollars to a cause helping Philadelphia high school students. The NFL fined Hunt $5,690 for unsportsmanlike conduct during a “bow and arrow” celebration after the rookie dunked on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in a game in which the Eagles dominated Kansas City 40-22 at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans last week. McElhenney, a Philly native best known for his work on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” offered to pay the fine, but Hunt said he would. However, the Super Bowl champion had a different idea.

Hunt suggested that McElhenney and others donate money to a cause organized by Barbers Who Care, a group that supports disadvantaged and underserved communities, helping Boys’ Latin of Philadelphia High School students take college tours. McElhenney donated $5,690 the entire amount of Hunt’s fine and he wasn’t the only Birds fan to donate. Many donations have poured in to the page with the words “Go Birds” in the comments section. Hunt, who had two tackles, including a tackle for loss and a hit on a quarterback, and the rest of the Eagles celebrated their Super Bowl victory over the Chiefs with a parade that started in South Philly and ended at the Museum of Art. Hunt and Philadelphia’s defense fumbled Mahomes six times to help the Birds win their second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.
