For decades, fans have loved listening to Mike Lange’s famous commentary during Penguins games. Today, football teams, former players and those who enjoy listening are remembering the life of the legendary broadcaster. Among the many people who know him is Mario Lemieux, the Penguins great. Lemieux called Lange unique, noting that the broadcaster has officiated almost every goal of his career. Mike is a Penguins legend and one of the most important figures in franchise history. I was honored that he called virtually every goal of my career and played a key role in all five of our Stanley Cup championships. Mike was a unique broadcaster, a great ambassador for the city of Pittsburgh and most importantly, a great friend. We will miss him. “Mike meant a lot to the city of Pittsburgh, I know he meant a lot to the players and coaching staff in particular. Some of my greatest memories in hockey are accompanied by Mike’s singing voice. He certainly meant a lot to all of us in Pittsburgh. Our condolences and prayers go out to his family. We will miss Mike in Pittsburgh.”
