Michigan State’s annual Midnight Madness event marks the start of the men’s and women’s basketball season, which returns next month with a notable twist. On Wednesday, the Spartans announced “Michigan State Madness” will take place on Friday, October 4 at the Breslin Center with a much earlier start time. Doors will open at 6pm with the free event starting at 7pm, two and a half hours earlier than last year.

“I’m really excited to start our season and for Michigan State Madness,” men’s coach Tom Izzo said in a university press release. “This is a new format for our programs and I think the setup will keep our students engaged, and by starting a little earlier, it will be more family friendly. When we are finished at the Breslin Center, every Spartan fan can be home in time for the football game.”
