Francisco Lindor hit a grand slam in the sixth inning, his latest game-winning hit in a season full of such hits, and the New York Mets reached the National Championship with a 4-1 victory against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Edwin Díaz hit Kyle Schwarber with two runners on the mound to end the game as New York defeated the rival Phillies in Game 4 of the First Division, winning 3-1 to close out the postseason series on home field for the first time in 24 years. “I want to win. And ours is a team that will forever be remembered,” Lindor said, speaking in the interview room with one of his young daughters sitting on his lap and drinking from a Gatorade bottle.

With tears in his eyes, outfielder Brandon Nimmo hugged Lindor as Mets players rushed onto the field in excitement after the final at-bat. Then, in a raucous locker room, they enjoyed a celebration of the team’s first victory in Citi Field’s 16-season history. The last time the Mets won a playoff series at their stadium was the 2000 NLCS at Shea Stadium.
