The Dodgers signed third baseman Max Muncy to a two-year contract extension, forgoing a pending decision on $14 million for 2024. Muncy’s new contract is worth $24 million and runs through 2025, with another club option for 2026 worth $10 million. Muncy’s 2024 option is part of a one-year contract extension signed with the Dodgers in August 2022. That deal guarantees the previous option for $13.5 million for 2023 and adds a sentence option The club was originally worth $10 million. Muncy added $4 million to his 2024 base salary by hitting multiple plate appearance thresholds, the highest of which was 550. Muncy batted 579 times in 2023, equaling the personal record with 36 home runs and setting a new personal record with 105 RBI in 2023.

In April, Muncy won the first National League player of the week award of his career when he equaled the Dodgers’ record with 10 home runs in a 13-game series. Muncy also hit three grand slams including a home run against old friend Craig Kimbrel on May 3 to equal the single-season franchise record. Despite playing only six years with the Dodgers, he finished 10th in club history with 175 home runs, and his four seasons with 35 or more home runs are second only to Duke Snider in team history.
