For the first time since 1969, there is a new name at the top of the Padres’ list of all-time top scorers. In the sixth inning of Tuesday’s 7-3 win at Seattle, Machado went deep to center field against Mariners pitcher George Kirby. The two-run home run was his 26th of the season and his 164th as a Padre. After tying Nate Colbert on Friday, Machado is now the club’s solo home run leader. “Honestly, I feel great,” Machado said on the Padres’ postgame show. “A special moment, just to be honored and be something in the San Diego record books for the rest of my career. Colbert has topped the franchise’s homer list since September 1969, the Padres’ first season. He hit 163 times in 1974. Over the years there have been challengers, most notably Adrian Gonzalez. The Chula Vista native hit 161 in 2010 before being traded to Boston. Machado has been a model of consistency since his arrival in 2019. Like Colbert, he made his mark in his sixth season with 794 games compared to Colbert’s 866.
