BALTIMORE — The winner of two MVP awards, Lamar Jackson looks as good as ever. And his new partner in the Baltimore midfield also played excellently. The partnership between Jackson and Derrick Henry turned an already impressive offense into a dominant one, and that was enough to help the Ravens overcome some real slippage on the other side of the ball. Baltimore has scored at least 35 points in four of the past six weeks, and its season average of 446 yards per game leads the NFL. “Lamarvelous,” catcher Zay Flowers said after Jackson had a perfect passing percentage in a 41-10 win over Denver.

Jackson leads the league with a 120.7 rating, has thrown 20 touchdown passes and has only two interceptions. Henry leads the way in rushing yards, having surpassed 1,000 in his first season at Baltimore. With Flowers blossoming in his second season, Baltimore has plenty of weapons, and a rebuilt offensive line is good enough. The Ravens (6-3) struggled on defense. Linebacker Patrick Queen and pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney left on free transfers, but it was actually the defensive secondary that was the weak spot despite the presence of star safety Kyle Hamilton. Baltimore ranks last in the NFL in pass defense.
The Ravens lost defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald last season when he left to become Seattle’s new coach. Two other defensive assistants also left to become coordinators elsewhere, and that may have contributed to this season’s struggles. Jackson could compete for another MVP award, but this team isn’t quite as well-rounded as the group that set the league’s best regular-season record a season ago. If the Ravens show improvement on defense, this could be the year Jackson breaks through and advances to the Super Bowl.
