In an interview with CNBC’s Joe Kernan, co-host of Squawk Box, Trump spoke for the first time about his iconic fist-raising moment after the shooting. After the interview: “He thought it was necessary to convey the message at that time to continue to fight for the greatness of America.” Kernan also revealed that Trump was lucky to turn around just in time to avoid a more serious and potentially fatal blow. The conservative host, who is friends with Trump, said the former president shared that he was suffering from “a small problem in his right ear but was happy to turn around at the last minute”.

The Squawk Box host did not say whether he had obtained any details from the former president about the exact nature of his injuries. Neither Trump nor the medical professionals who treated him have released any information about the type of injury the Republican leader suffered at the rally where a 20-year-old gunman opened fire on president’s side, killing one man in the crowd and seriously injuring two others.

Kernan was among a list of 54 celebrities who appeared on Trump’s personal contact list during his hush money trial in Manhattan. Kernan also said the president was “pleased with all the encouragement and support” he received from officials in both parties.
