In time for Grimace’s birthday, this beloved purple mascot became a good luck charm for the New York Mets. Grimace threw out the first pitch in a game that led to the Mets’ seven-game winning streak, putting them above .500 on the season.  Afterwards, Grimace was said to bring good luck to New York fans and reappeared in the stadium on Monday night. In true Grimace style, a stadium seat was painted purple and marked with Grimace’s signature in his honor. This seat will forever be at Citi Field, bringing good luck to players, coaches and fans throughout the season. His lucky seat is in Block 302, Row 6, Seat 12; the numbers are directly related to Grimace’s date of birth. This chair will be available for sale throughout the remainder of the season.

Mets chief marketing officer Andy Goldberg explained the Grimace phenomenon: “When we first put Grimace on the field, I don’t think anyone could have predicted what would happen next in terms of how our fans received Grimace, along with his incredible winning streak. Team Obviously we kept a close eye on how our fans and social media reacted, and only after our fans were fully receptive did we start dipping our toes in the water. We have some of the most amazing and passionate fans in all of sports and it’s important to really let the fans own and run with this. Since that initial wave, we have of course kept an eye on the Grimace phenomenon and have had ongoing conversations with McDonald’s, a long-time partner, about whether we can build on the Grimace phenomenon. if and when we can rely on the Grimace phenomenon to return.”
