Freddie Freeman produced the greatest World Series performance of all time, and not just because the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball player suffered a severely sprained ankle during his playoff run team’s next. Freeman also broke cartilage in his ribs shortly before the Dodgers began their postseason in the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres, ESPN and The Washington Post reported.

Freeman, 35, was diagnosed with the injury on the night of October 4, the day before the NLDS began, according to ESPN. However, Freeman remains on the Dodgers’ roster while still dealing with the aforementioned ankle injury, plus a finger broken in August that still hasn’t fully healed. He was in the lineup for that game and remained contributing throughout the first two rounds of the playoffs. Despite significant pain that forced him to sit out three different times during the Dodgers’ NLDS victory over the Padres and the NLCS victory over the New York Mets. The four days off between the Dodgers’ Game 6 of the NLCS and Game 1 of the 2024 World Series helped Freeman make significant improvements, and not just physically. He also adjusted his stroke to recover his power stroke. However, the type of rib injury that Freeman faced typically results in players being sidelined for months.
