Kansas City Chiefs fans were shocked when Brett Veach finally brought in a WR1 via the trade block, adding DeAndre Hopkins ahead of the Chiefs’ Week 8 game against the Raiders. Hopkins was limited in his first game as a Chiefs but man did he have the KC breakout party Monday night against the Buccaneers. Hopkins, in just his second game wearing the Chiefs’ red and gold, had eight catches for 86 yards and got into the end zone twice. The first touchdown was set up by a spectacular catch by Hopkins where multiple defenders surrounded him and just minutes later, Patrick Mahomes had no problem finding his newest weapon in penalty area to help Chiefs take the lead.
After the game, Hopkins’ comments excited Chiefs fans. When asked how to describe his feelings, Hopkins said “Honestly, there are no words to describe it. So patient. It’s a dream come true to get my first win mine at a stadium like this in a team like this, has to continue to build momentum.” He was then asked what helped him prepare for his second game as Chief. Hopkins praised the Chiefs’ coaching staff and his teammates. “It’s not just me, it’s everyone.” Finally, Hopkins was asked what it felt like to catch the ball from Patrick Mahomes. He said he and his mother knew this day would come and he was “just present in the moment.”
