Hours after the Detroit Lions’ NFC divisional round loss to Washington, head coach Dan Campbell received a text at 4 a.m. from All-Pro Amon-Ra St. Louis catcher Brown. This defeat, after earning the No. 1 seed for the first time in team history, continues to upset both. After experiencing a wave of emotions following Saturday’s 45-31 loss to the Commanders, Campbell said he “absolutely” felt that the Lions’ chances of reaching the Super Bowl were still open.

The Lions will likely lose both coordinators Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson to NFL head coaching jobs. Johnson, Detroit’s offensive coordinator, is finalizing a deal to become the new head coach of the Chicago Bears, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday. Glenn, Detroit’s defensive coordinator, will interview for a second time with the New York Jets for their vacant coaching position on Tuesday, sources told ESPN. Campbell said his job is to “fill in and find the next person” if they move elsewhere, and he plans to be deeply involved in evaluating future candidates from inside and outside the organization to ensure the team continues to progress after a 15-win season. The Lions want to keep their terminology intact and will prioritize quarterback Jared Goff’s comfort so he can play at a high level.
Heading into the postseason, Lions quarterback Jahmyr Gibbs feels this team is stronger than the 2023 squad that reached the NFC Finals. Campbell and the team remained disappointed after failing to achieve their ultimate goal. “We had these goals. We achieved two of those goals this year and in a sense, went beyond what we did a year ago, but We still didn’t get any further and it was disappointing. But it also motivated me.
