Lions quarterback Brian Branch apologized on Wednesday for giving the Packers crowd the middle finger after being ejected during the game. Branch was upset at being hit by a pitch to a defenseless player and took it out on the fans as he walked away, receiving an additional unsportsmanlike conduct flag for his double play. . Lions defensive assistant Jim O’Neil said it was hard to find a teaching point from Branch’s hit on Packers receiver Bo Melton in the second quarter. The coaches encouraged Branch to lower his goals, and Branch agreed. “I completely agree with this call. My goals were obviously high, but I never intended to aim for the head,” Branch said. “Moving forward, I have to lower my goals.”
Branch said he had no bad intentions, and Melton defended the hit as “playfulness” after the game. “I’m fine, so that’s what it is,” Melton said. “He was playing football, and he hit me while I was in the air, so that’s how it was.”
