Head coach Sean Payton named rookie Bo Nix the Broncos’ starting quarterback. “Bo Nix will be our starting quarterback,” Payton said. “I feel like and I said this to two weeks ago that that room is amazing. Payton said he broke the news to Nix and the other Broncos quarterbacks before Wednesday’s practice. Nix, the 12th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, will make his career debut against the Seattle Seahawks on September 8. The Oregon native will become the second Broncos rookie to take the field at quarterback in Week 1 behind John Elway in 1983.
Nix began competing for the role shortly after the draft, when he shared first-team reps with Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson during the offseason program and early stages of training camp. He and Stidham then took turns getting opportunities with the first-team offensive line as training camp progressed.
