Iowa City considers continuing free bus program, starting new public transportation projects. The free ticket program allowed 1.5 million rides in the last financial year. This program includes all 13 routes in the Iowa City area, including a network that runs to Coralville. Within a month of introducing fare-free transportation, ridership increased by 50 percent, The Daily Iowan reports. The pilot program launched in August 2023 and is expected to continue until August 2025. However, Iowa City plans to maintain the program until after the original end date.
