It looks like Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is a man of his word. The Texas-born quarterback was forced to wear some humorous memorabilia during a news conference on Wednesday after his alma mater, the University of Oklahoma, lost to rival Mizzou over the weekend. Apparently, it was part of a bet he made with team reporter and University of Missouri alumnus Casey Phillips. But the best part isn’t that Mayfield is wearing another team’s gear; no, the best part is that the shirt has “Mizzou Grandma” written in big, bold letters. “I have to give Baker huge praise because he is a man of his word and has always stuck to his decisions despite some disagreements,” Phillips wrote online.

If there’s any sport that lends itself to this kind of thing, it’s certainly Mayfield, who is no stranger to inciting college rivalries. In 2017, then the Sooners’ QB, he planted a flag at Ohio Stadium after his team beat the Buckeyes. And on Sunday, he offered a cautious comment on similar incidents that happened the day before at OSU-Michigan, Florida-Florida State and NC State-North Carolina. “College football is meant to be competitive,” he told reporters. “That’s like the Big 12 banning the ‘car horn’ signal. Let the boys play.” It’s fun to see him approach the humorous outcome of his bet with Phillips.
