The Washington Capitals knocked off the Florida Panthers 6-3 on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena in the District. Logan Thompson stopped 30 of 33 shots faced to improve to 24-2-4 on the season. This win improved the Capitals’ record to 35-11-7 (77 points) on the season. After a slow start, the Capitals finally opened the scoring late in the first period with a goal from Andrew Mangiapane, but the Panthers responded with less than a minute left in the period with a goal from Sam Bennett, tying the score at 1–1 at the first halftime break.

The Capitals regained the lead early in the middle period thanks to a shorthanded goal from Tom Wilson, but the Panthers responded again just under three minutes later to tie the score at 2-2 on a goal from Aleksander Barkov. The score remained the same until the end of the second period. The Capitals regained the lead early in the final period with Lars Eller’s breakout point and added a 6-on-5 goal by Nic Dowd to quickly make it 4-2. Matthew Tkachuck closed the gap to 4-3 near midway through the period, but that was it. Aliaksei Protas and Alex Ovechkin added empty-net goals for a 6-3 win.
