Former Penn State football captain Jonathan Sutherland is signing with a second NFL team, agreeing to a contract with the New York Giants, according to KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson. Sutherland, who played cornerback and safety for the Nittany Lions from 2017 to 2022, was originally signed by the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He spent spent most of last season on the practice squad and was released in July.

Sutherland was a special teams ace and Swiss Army knife throughout his career at Penn State. During his six-year tenure, Sutherland had 137 tackles, eight tackles for loss and six pass deflections. The 5-foot-11-inch, 202-pound Sutherland will join former teammate Theo Johnson and another former Penn State player, winger Allen Robinson II, in New York.
