AJ Brown read the famous book “Inner Excellence” on the sidelines of the stadium. Brown’s play hardly reflects the excellence of the Eagles’ two playoff victories. That was especially true Sunday in the Eagles’ 28-22 divisional round victory over the Rams, in which Brown had two catches for 14 yards. But it’s worth noting that twice Brown failed to catch the ball. The first pass was a short pass across midfield on the Eagles’ second possession that Brown was unable to hold. The second pass came just before halftime on a deep ball along the sideline, where Brown was unable to keep a pass from Jalen Hurts just in front of the goal line.

Ultimately, the Eagles failed to score any points on that offensive drive when they had a chance to increase their three-point deficit to 10 at the end of the first half. “Yeah, just tough,” Brown said of that fall. “There’s no reason. I just wish I could have kept it. Conditions played a role. It was just difficult. I tried my best to keep it.” To put things into perspective, Brown has never had a two-game streak of fewer catches or fewer yards in the regular season throughout his career that began in 2019. That happened in his rookie year in the playoffs when Brown had 2 catches for 13 yards in the Tennessee Titans’ first two games. Certainly, some of Brown’s problems can be explained by the harsh weather conditions with snow blowing in the players’ faces. And some might explain this by the fact that Brown has struggled with a knee injury over the past month, since he first appeared on the injury report before the December 22 game against Washington to read “knee/rest”. In the previous game, against the Pittsburgh Steelers on December 15, Brown had eight catches for 110 yards. Brown then had eight catches for 97 yards against the Commanders. In the three games Brown has played since then, Brown has had six catches for 60 yards. No reception was longer than 20 yards.
